The 2026 Great Britain Lion & Eagle Golden Enigma Edition 1 oz Silver Coin transforms The Royal Mint's Lion and the Eagle design with a dramatic secondary enhancement featuring dark ruthenium and 24K gold plating. The contrasting black and gold treatment emphasizes the lion and eagle imagery while giving the original silver coin a distinctly different collectible presentation.
The underlying 2026 Lion and the Eagle coin was created for The Royal Mint by artist Jonathan Olliffe and brings together two national symbols, the British lion and American eagle, representing the longstanding relationship between the United Kingdom and United States. The obverse carries Martin Jennings' official portrait of King Charles III.
Struck from 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, the coin measures 38.61 mm in diameter. The Golden Enigma enhanced edition is limited to 3,000 pieces and comes in a capsule with a Certificate of Authenticity. Because the gold and ruthenium treatment was applied by a secondary company rather than The Royal Mint, the enhanced piece is no longer considered legal tender.
